We’re gonna look at the next 3 episodes of Dragons: Race to the Edge, season 6 has had a consistent run so far, will that continue?
The loyal order of Ingerman
Fishlegs has discovered something in Oswald the Agreeable’s
notes they recovered from Vannaheim, Fishlegs is descended from Dragon Hunters,
known as [title drop] The Loyal Order of Ingerman. They hunted the Dramillion
dragons to near extinction. Is anyone really surprised? Berk only started
liking dragons a few years ago. I suspect pretty much all of them have Dragon
Hunter ancestors.
Anyway, Fishlegs has found Dramillion Island and wants to
explore it, but he’s got some young explorers coming, so he’s leaves the Twins
in charge and heads off, with Astrid taking notice. Fishkegs lands on the
island and finds a dramillion pretty damn quickly. The Dramillion attacks, and
Fishlegs is only saved by the timely arrival of Astrid.
The Dramillion is able to fire multiple kinds of attack
blasts, but for 2 experienced riders he’s not much of a threat. He backs off
and Fishlegs wants to follow, hoping to find its pack. They instead find that
the Dramillion hunting is still very much going on. They’re being used to train
new recruits to the Dragon Hunters.
Just to rub salt in Fishlegs’ wounds they have a full
segment talking about the Ingerman method, even a f*cking song number. The
Dramillion from earlier makes a rescue attempt but it fails miserably and he’s
captured. Fishlegs tries to use his ancestral connection to force its release
and he’s partially successfully, though the Hunter laugh off his grandstand,
they’re distraction enough that the Dragon can escape, though with a shackle on
his tail meaning that he can’t fly.
Fishlegs follows the Dramellion and after removing his
helmet, removes it shackle using combined blasts from Meatlug and Stormfly,
after a while the Dramellions use their multiple blast types to do it
themselves, and soon the entire pack is free and the hunters are chased off the
island.
It’s honestly a pretty meh episode. In an earlier season I
might’ve given it more credit, but the premise alone has holes. And don’t get
me started on the B-plot

A Gruff Separation
Yay Gruffnut’s back…
Hiccup finds a ship and finds Gruffnut, who claims to have
changed. The twins are about to turn 19 and want a huge party, which is
derailed when Gruffnut arrives. He says he’s there to initiate the Thornston
trails, 3 deadly tests given to those that actually survive to 19 years old.
Hiccup tries to talk them out of it, but they’re dead set on doing it, until
Gruffnut tells them that not only can they not use Barf and Belch, they’re
competing against each other.
Both tap out, but Gruffnut begins his manipulations and
manages to get them both back in, for each other. And do you honestly care
about this? I don’t I’ll be brief. They find a chest in cave full of
Zipplebacks, the chest is seemingly full of rocks but it turns out Gruffnut was
manipulating them and the chest secretly contained a Dragon Eye lens
Yeah, this episode’s a hard pass

Mi Amore Wing
The riders have collected scrap metal from around the place,
they plan to give it to the armour-wing in what’s supposed to be the origins of
recycling. But the subject soon changes as Dagur and Mala arrive with some
news. Dagur has completed the Defenders of the Wing King Trials and he and Mala
are getting married. Yup…
The two are sickeningly romantic, and much to my horror, the
twins offer to plan the wedding, thankfully that offer is tossed in the garbage
where it belongs but their open romantic gestures have Astrid a bit on-edge,
seeing as Hiccup has never acted like that around here. And let’s be honest
here, Astrid, you’d whack him if he did. Still, Astrid decides to wear Hiccup’s
betrothal necklace for the first time. And whilst the Twins and even Toothless
take note, Hiccup’s more preoccupied with the wedding.
They drop off the scrap metal as Dagur asks Hiccup to be his
best man at the wedding. Astrid tries to draw attention to the fact she’s
wearing the necklace but Hiccup is still more occupied on other matters, like
the fact the Armour-wing has a Dragon Eye Lens on it. Hiccup tries to obtain it
peacefully, but soon Dragon Flyers attack.
They retreat but they were only a scout group, and now
Krogan and his crew will be coming in force. They need to retrieve the lens
before they return. Hiccup pushes Astrid to tell him what’s wrong, ignoring a
few obvious signs to back off. They find the armour-wing but he’s turned
aggressive after the attack, Toothless leads it into the air, right to Krogan
and his flyers. Krogan manages to shoot it down, and the Riders fall back to
protect it. Dagur flies off to gain their attention as the others carry the armour-wing.
Krogan isn’t fooled for long, though, and 3 Dragon Hunter
ships have arrived to support him. Astrid, Dagur and Hiccup fight Krogan, but
as Dagur looks prepared to sacrifice his life, Hiccup decides to sacrifice the
lens instead. Astrid and Hiccup make up and promise to do better and blablabla,
that was a footnote in the episode.
After 2 pretty terrible episodes, this one’s a return to
form, though not quite hitting the same strong notes as the first 3, it has a
good balance of all the things I like in a Dragons show
