We’re taking another look at Jessica Jones, they can’t get Sallinger on much so far but we’re only 6 episodes in, let’s dive into episodes 7-8
AKA The Double Half-Wappinger
Isn’t that just a whole Wappinger?
Next morning, Jessica and Trish watch as Sallinger is
released from prison to a full news crew? He’s found himself a lawyer in Jeri
Hogarth, much to Jessica’s irritation. Hogarth’s trying to use this to increase
her publicity, and Sallinger turns their attention to Jessica Jones and the
‘other vigilante,’ eventually turning the crews on Jessica.
Hogarth and Sallinger argue and for the first time Jeri is
on the back foot. Though she still seems able to hold her own later when
Jessica confronts her in her office. Malcolm is feeling guilty over his tryst
with Brianna. He calls Zaya, wanting to talk to her in person she agrees to
meet.
Jessica’s phones have been off the hook since Sallinger made
his public statements, Gillian is a boss on the phone. With covering him 24-7 a
non-option with his new media profile, Jessica decides to take a dig into his
history. His brother who was killed in a ‘tractor accident’ unable to get the
police file delivered to them, it’s time for Jessica and Trish to take a trip.
Meanwhile, Zaya brings up another client who dealt with a
‘masked vigilante,’ the rapist we saw in an earlier. Hogarth tells her to interview
him, and we find out she accidentally sent a text for Kith to Zaya, oops.
They head to the town of Wappinger falls. But the police
captain knows Jessica from the footage and isn’t willing to show her the file.
Jessica texts Trish to feign car trouble to get the police to come out so can
get the file.
Malcolm comes to the office and finds out about Hogarth
being in with Sallinger. Hogarth advises that Jessica is both thorough and
unyielding so any past transgressions would be best brought to life now.
Sallinger dismisses her again. Malcolm is not comfortable working anywhere near
him but of course it’s a law firm so…
Of course, since his business is risk management, he has the
perfect excuse to do digging into Sallinger. The police files don’t seem to
contain anything, it seems tractor rollover is a legitimate thing, but maybe
among the other files there’s something they can use.
Zaya’s digging has brought up at least some of the clients
accosted by the vigilante have ties to the law firm, Hogarth asks her to keep
digging. Meanwhile Malcolm confronts Gillian wanting to know whatever Jessica
knows, Gillian, being an absolute boss, won’t let him do that without Jessica’s
permission.
But Jessica’s busy following a lead, the disappearance and
likely murder of his high-school wrestling partner Nathan Silva. She’s about to
confront the family and Trish is the one who answers the phone, giving him
permission to access their files as long as they’re kept appraised.
The father seems to be open to Jessica but the mother less
so as they argue in Spanish. Jessica notices a photo Sallinger took and sent to
them after his death, taken right where a gazebo was built after, the officer
was called into stop him but Jessica is hardly one to be stopped and finds
exactly what she expected, Nathan’s body right under their feet.
Because it’s Sallingers first likely kill there’s likely
still DNA to get him with. But now it’s down to Costa to make the case that
it’s their collar. Meanwhile Zaya’s reviewing security footage and sees Malcolm
talking with the masked vigilante.
Sallinger is teaching wrestling at a community centre, with
Malcolm watching from the shadows. Trish decides to call in a tip to the New
York Bulletin. Back at the community centre, Jessica tracked Malcolm’s phone
and is on the scene. They see a kid opening a sports-bag and Jessica flashes
back to the parents’ reaction when she opened the bag with the body in it.
Sallinger sees her and invites him in. He challenges Jessica
to a fair fight and she accepts. The NYB gets photos of Trish in action.
Sallinger quickly pins Jessica down but psychs him out mentioning Nathan and
begins tossing him around, much to the delight of the crowd.
Definitely a worthwhile entry but things rarely stay simple
for Jessica.

AKA Camera Friendly
Jessica is awoken the next morning by detective Costa.
Trish’s showboating to the media has delayed any chance of the NYPD getting
their hands on the body. Costa’s clout is already waning thanks to his
involvement with Jessica.
Jessica heads to the Network to confront Trish but they’re
in the middle of shooting. Making matters worse, Jessica just got a video on
her phone, Sallinger threatening to kill someone, with little clue as to whom
by day’s end. It’s sent via Insta-Yap, which means after 2 views it’s gone, so
they can’t use it as evidence against him.
Trish gets Dorothy to take her place on the show so she can
investigate with Jessica. Jessica tries to call in Costa but he’s in the middle
of an adoption meeting with his husband and boy does this not make him look
good.
Malcolm’s summoned to the firm, and they’re shown a version
of Trish breaking in that leaves out the incriminating part of the two talking.
Hogarth is livid and wants this person unmasked immediately and tasks Malcolm
with doing so.
Trish checks out the marketplace where the video, she
quickly verifies with a member of staff that the video was taken this morning.
But the more she dives deep, the more he’s convinced its just a game, something
akin to an episode of Patsy.
It seems the police are f*cking idiots and all Sallinger had
to do was hire a decoy to sit in his place for $200. And yes, Costa’s there,
and likely very embarrassed right now. Jessica decides to try and find a way to
force him to communicate, send an Insta-Yap to him, showing her destroying all
his stuff and calling him a liar. Unlike her I presume he knows about the 2 max
views, and he’s not under house arrest, he was not legally forced to stay at
home.
Zaya wants answers from Malcolm and it’s becoming more
obvious that the secrets between them are going to wreck this relationship.
Sallinger sends another video and since the videos are potentially clues to his
victims, they notice that a woman with black hair and in a dark jacket is in
both of them and set out to warn them, the only way to do that is with Dorothy and
an interview, and because they’re trying a little harder than normal to not
make Dorothy a terrible human being, she agrees to it. Geez, it’s almost as if
they’re gonna kill her off.
Whilst the others try and convince her of the importance of
being camera friendly, that’s not Jessica’s style and she gets right to the
point. At this stage, I would’ve concentrated on the protecting the victim as
opposed to brining up Sallinger, who is still likely to be implicated on
Nathan’s murder. But the tactic worked, dozens of women are pouring into the
police station, sh*t happens fast around here apparently but there’s a problem,
because of that the police are being called back and no-one’s looking for
Sallinger anymore. He does tell them where Sallinger was spotted during the day
The two hit the streets questing people about the victim, no
luck but they find a truck from GT agrochemical, the same truck Jessica’s
parents crashed into which began her journey. They believe it might be someone
who works at the chemical plant. Sallinger is dressed up ready to go, Jessica
and Trish get into and find the person.
Sallinger returns home to find the police waiting for him,
but since he’s not technically been charge with anything there’s little they
can do. The police are all over GT chemicals but they’ve got word that
Sallinger is back home. So best case scenario, this was a waste of time and
Sallinger was calling their bluff. Still, Nathan’s body is with the NYPD now.
With Jessica’s publicity controlling the narrative, Hogarth
makes a bold move and makes a threat against Jones and the masked vigilante to
the bulletin. Jessica heads back home and begins re-examining the video.
Malcolm comes in and during their talk she has an epiphany, that they target
was in fact Dorothy walker. Trish walks in to find her dead. Trish rushes off
to kill Sallinger with Jessica rushing to stop her, arriving just in time to
stop Trish dealing the lethal blow.
This really feels like it should be a penultimate episode,
but we’ve still got 5 episodes left at this stage
